George Washington as Commander-in-Chief of the American Continental Army became a national hero and was elected the first President of the United States of America. His authority was so high that he was re-elected in 1792.

He has gone down in history as a progressive political figure, he also became a key figure in the fight for the independence of the English colonies in North America which led to victory of the Americans. He was an advocate of gradual abolition of slavery in the states and in his will he granted freedom to his slaves. The capital of the USA has been named after him.
