The clock has been made in the Empire style. The scene it depicts is evoked by Greek mythology.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom and just war. She is one of the most significant figures of the Olympus, sometimes even superior to her father Zeus. In ancient mythology Athena patronized labour, she gave laws to people and taught them different trades. Since the times of Homer Athena was esteemed as the protector of towns who was always in the front line of the defence.
The clock depicts grand Athena. In one hand she has a spear and in the other a shield. Lying at Athena’s feet is the Golden Fleece. In this case the Golden Fleece symbolizes prosperity, the spear and shield — victory and power, the owl crowning the helmet Owisdom and justice.
